workshops at art lounge on 101

happy monday everyone! I hope july has been treating you well thus far – it’s been an incredibly productive month on my end…but more on that in another blog post…

today I am thrilled to share with you some upcoming workshops at the art lounge on 101 (located in encinitas, ca)! I’ve got two classes for october: a two-day workshop inspired by voodoo, and a class on miniature spellbooks. as you know, halloween and the month of october is my absolute favorite time of year – so I’m excited to get some spooky class offerings out there! side note: the two-day HOUSE OF VOODOO class is one I am particularly excited about, and a workshop I’ve been brainstorming in my head for quite some time now!

I’ve also got a two-day illustrated mini portrait class scheduled for november. that workshop is a student fav – so be sure to register early to snag your spot. same goes with those october classes, as space is limited! see below for all of the details, and I hope to see you in class!

Saturday, October 1, 2016 10am – 4pm
Sunday, October 2, 2016 10am – 12pm
Gather round swamp queens, it’s time to make some bitchin’ and bewitchin’ art journal spreads. Inspired by voodoo (and hoodoo folk magick), this art journal workshop explores intention setting, charms, and symbolism in two-dimensional form. Register via the calendar on the art lounge on 101 website!

Sunday, October 2, 2016 1pm – 4pm
Macabre meets the mini journal in this mixed media class – where you’ll learn to construct, alter, and illustrate your very own miniature spell book. Through step-by-step instruction, we will begin by binding and constructing our two-inch mini journals by hand. Once our journals are assembled, the class will then take you through a variety of individual techniques, prompts, and illustrations to apply within each 2-page spread. At the completion of the class you’ll have a fully altered and bewitching mini journal featuring eight different miniature art spreads. Hop on over here to register!

Saturday, November 12, 2016 10am – 4pm
Sunday, November 13, 2016 10am – 2pm
This art journaling course takes you through the process of creating a two-page journal spread that includes an illustrated portrait or figure. Through step-by-step instruction, we will begin by building preliminary layers within our journal pages using a variety of mixed media techniques. After building up a foundation, you will then learn how to plan, draw, and paint an illustrative style portrait into your spread. This portrait instruction also includes variations of how to approach drawing the face and features, contouring using multiple layers of color, and detailing facial features in pen. As a special addition for the month of November – we will also embed typography into our work as an expression of what we are grateful for. Register via the calendar on the art lounge on 101 website!

  1. Roxanne, I so enjoyed your Creatures online workshop though I haven’t shown much of my work from there. It has influenced my regular painting so much.

Will you be giving an online workshop anytime soon? I so wish I could attend your workshop on “mini book of shadows”;’ that really peaks my interest. Any chance that could be translated to an online workshop?

    • Hey Marti!

I’m so happy to read that you enjoyed the Creatures class. To answer you question…YES! I am launching a second online class titled ‘Lyrical’ very very soon. The class is about using music and song lyrics as an inspiration for a journal spread. I’ve been teasing some of the artwork from the class on my instagram:

As for a mini journal class (a regular one or book of shadows one) – I do at some point hope to offer it online, but want to teach it in-person a bit before I do! Haha…I have so many online class ideas…and not enough time to crank em out!

  2. Come to Colorado! There’s some local art stores that host workshops in Loveland and Colorado Springs! Let me know if you’re interested

    • lol….well thankfully I’ve got some online class options for ya! “LYRICAL” will be launching very very soon (so stay tuned for that!). I also do hope to do a bit more traveling and teaching in 2017…

  3. Another reason I wished that I lived in California !!! Please tell me you will be doing an online version of the Mini Book of Shadows ? I ADORE your mini books and love to work on a smaller scale so I have my fingers and toes crossed 🙂
