it’s official…we booked our honeymoon flight to iceland!

we cannot wait to romp around in the wilderness, see the country via mini camper, hike on a glacier, see a puffin or two (appropriate I know), drink with locals, take a bike tour in reykjavik, lay on the roof of our camper under the stars…the list is simply endless. I don’t know if we could have thought up a better location for our honeymoon destination.

…it’s an adventure I cannot wait to embark on.

we knew we wanted to spend the second half of our time in Costa Rica on a beach. so for our last 4 days of our trip- we booked a hotel on the Guanacaste coast. after a four hour drive, we arrived at our destination- the Sugar Beach Hotel. after checking in, putting our things in our room, and a casual walk around the hotel grounds- we noticed something odd…we hadn’t seen any other guests…

rightfully so- we went straight to the bar (that’s where you usually find all of your answers right?). after a few minutes sitting in an deserted restaurant- we finally asked our bartender where the hell was everyone? keep in mind- this WAS NOT a small hotel…we’re talking a large property, private beach, huge restaurant and at least 100 rooms.

our bartender filled us in- “oh. it’s just you. and two other people this week.” we weren’t sure if we should run for the hills or enjoy the moment. turns out- he was right. there were two birdwatching sisters from the south staying at the hotel (who later helped us out…more on that another time) and then just us. the hotel still kept a full staff…and during the majority of our stay, and with the exception of the 10 pound iguanas- it felt like it was very own our private hotel…

(so now’s the time when I slowly start to reveal stories from our Costa Rican adventure)

much like what I experienced in Thailand, Costa Rica is full of street dogs and cats. they roam about (somewhat aimlessly) looking for any kind of food crap or pet from a tourist. they’re practically harmless and add for some interesting entertainment when cruising around town. while waiting outside of our adventure tour headquarters (before our all day rafting trip)- we met Flora. or at least, that’s what Puff named her…

we fell in love with her immediately (which now seems silly as I type it, since she was just a random dog). she reminded Puff of his childhood beagle, and I just wanted to rub her belly all damn day. since we were about to board a bus for a tour, we knew this was probably the one and only time we would see her. or so we thought. who knew, that the next night at dinner (and the restaurant was only a few blocks from the adventure tour building) in comes Flora- and she walks right up to our table…(at which point naturally, I started tearing off pieces of my dinner for her).

our server just laughed at us when we told him we named her and commented- “but she’s just a street dog?”. after eating my chicken scraps- she took off. a few minutes later- we saw her cruisin’ the street with 3 other smaller dogs that looked just like her! (<- clearly her pups). the minute we saw that- we realized Flora was livin' the dream. on a more hilarious note...

safe to say, Flora wasn’t the only one who ate dinner with us that evening.

no treats today (but get your fill here)- cause we’re off to COSTA RICA for the next 10 days! a vacation like this is definitely needed for this little blogger/artist/grad student (and yah- we’re staying at the base of that volcano for the first portion of our trip!). did I also mention we’re tackling some rather adventurous activities like this? and this? AND this?? (I really hope my mother isn’t reading this post…if so- don’t worry Mom I have health insurance okay?!).

I’ve managed to scrounge up a few posts for you while I’m gone and even have a few By Bun GUEST BLOGGERS on tap for next week! this will be the first time I have had other contributors on my blog/website- and I’m actually pretty damn excited about it. hope you dig em…see you all when I return!
