as most of you know, each year when participating in inktober I create a series of halloween inspired ‘portraits’. they feature a variety of spooky or horror characters from tv, film, or throughout history. to recap the drawings from week one, I filmed a little sketchbook tour over on my youtube channel

can you believe it, october begins this saturday. which means inktober starts in a only a few days! that being said, I thought that I would put together a little youtube vid reviewing over all of my favorite art supplies that I like to use for inktober. this video is also part of a series of spooky videos I’ll be doing for october!

if you’re unfamiliar with inktober, it’s a daily drawing challenge for the month of october. artist jake parker created this challenge with only two simple rules: draw every day for 31 days, and complete your drawings using ink. I’ve also recently learned that he’s made a list of prompts this year (in the case you need some direction or ideas on specific things to draw).

drawing challenges like this are fantastic. they keep you motivated, challenge you (duh), and stir up inspiration in a really positive way. regardless of your preferred medium or way you make art, it’s really important to keep up those drawing skills! I’ve been participating in inktober for several years now, and tend to stick with the same annual theme: halloween portraits! as you might have seen on my instagram…I’m already getting a jump start on my drawings.

so hop on over to my youtube channel to watch the video, or check out jake parker’s site for complete info on the challenge…

happy inking!
