if you follow me on instagram, then you’ve probably seen my daily drawings I’ve been posting this week for the april art challenge! as we move through the month, I’ll be sharing weekly recaps of my drawings here on the blog…
it’s not too late to join in on the drawing fun – learn more about the #aprilartchallenge and start tackling daily prompts here!
if you remember, last year I hosted my first ever 30-day drawing challenge. well I’m bringing it back this year with a whole new set of daily prompts! I also made sure to post the prompts early this year, in the case you wanted to get a head start…
daily drawing challenges are awesome for a slew of reasons: it keeps you inspired, it’s a great way to practice, test your skills, and create something everyday. not to mention, it all leads you to a rad little pile of drawings by the end of the month!
like last year, I’ve made some of the prompts a little spooky (because it wouldn’t be a by bun drawing challenge if there weren’t prompts like skull, ghost, monster, tarot, or stitches am I right?), and the rules of the challenge are simple:
1.) draw something everyday inspired by the prompt. this is totally your own interpretation, and thinking outside of the box is very much encouraged!
2.) your drawing can be done in any medium and on any substrate of your choosing. personally, I’ll be doing my daily drawings in my large sketchbook with pens (and maybe some liquid ink here and there).
3.) you do not have to have any drawing skills to participate. it’s about doing a creative task everyday, and practicing!
4.) share your work on social media using the hashtag: #aprilartchallenge
so there you have it – get those sketchbooks ready and let’s do this thing. the challenge starts saturday!
a little secret: I’ve always wanted to host a drawing challenge.
whenever I have participated in challenges (specifically inktober), I always find myself super creatively motivated. I’m also a firm believer that drawing, regardless of what medium you work in day to day, is just a good thing to do. drawing, illustrating, doodling, sketching…whatever it is you’re doing and at whatever level you’re doing it at…is a technical skill! so, it’s important to keep up those skills and practice, practice, practice.
now it wouldn’t be my kind of drawing challenge if it didn’t include prompts like: something two-headed, an eyeball, an urban legend, or a dead president (festive right?). the rules of this challenge are simple:
+ draw something everyday based on the prompt. this is totally your own interpretation, and thinking outside of the box is very much encouraged!
+ your drawing can be done in any medium and on any substrate of your choosing. personally, I’ll be doing my daily drawings in a moleskine sketchbook with pitt pens (and maybe colored pencil here and there).
+ you do not have to have any drawing skills to participate. it’s about doing a creative task everyday, and practicing!
+ share your work on social media using the hashtag: #aprilartchallenge
so there you have it folks. grab your art supplies and your art homies…and let’s do this thing. the challenge starts FRIDAY!
