2018 schedule from artist Roxanne Coble (aka BY BUN!)

let’s talk in-person art workshops and events for 2018 shall we?! eeeekkkk!!! I didn’t want to share my schedule for the year until I had everything totally worked out and ready to roll n’ roll…but here it is!

take a look below for in-person art workshops and events for the year ahead…

I’m starting the year off with a brand new workshop I’m teaching at Way Art Yonder Studio: Mixed Media Mini Zines! Seats are already filling up for this class, so I highly recommend you snag your spot now.

I’ll be doing a super rad (and free) in-person event in Los Angeles in March. I can’t say anything else quite yet, but more info on it is coming soon… 😉

for the first time ever, this year I’ll be branching out of California! first up, is for the incredible Ghost Ranch Retreat hosted by Erin Faith Allen. there’s still seats available for this if you want to come along for a total creative adventure and getaway. You guys don’t want to miss this one. Get more info & register here.

I’ll be applying for a booth this year at the annual Los Angeles Zinefest! approved or not, this is an event I will be attending. if I’m not a vendor, you can expect to at least run into me or maybe we can plan a meet-up. Learn more about L.A. Zinefest here.

This summer I’ll be back down at Way Art Yonder teaching one of my most popular art journal workshops: Fantastical Fauna. This class sells out very fast (and was waitlisted last time!), so don’t hesitate to reserve your seat early.

Where my NorCal peeps at?! I’ll be returning to Work of Heart Studio this summer for two days in the brand new studio. Stay tuned for official class announcements, but you can save the date here!

My workshop grand finale for 2018 will be at Ephemera Paducah in Kentucky! this the farthest I’ve gone out of state for teaching, and am so thrilled to be there for three days worth of classes. this is a great chance for my east coast/mid west peeps to join me for a class! Get more info and sign up for classes here.

so there you have it guys!! I’ve created a page on my website where you can see this schedule, links for registrations, more info, updates, etc. be sure you’re subscribed to my mailing list (in the right side bar) to be notified on workshop & event updates.

I hope you see and create with some of you IRL this year!!

artist Roxanne Coble (aka BY BUN) will be at the Ghost Ranch 2018 art retreat!

artist Roxanne Coble (aka BY BUN) will be at the Ghost Ranch 2018 art retreat!

I know it’s been pretty quiet on the blog and my social media lately – but that’s because I’m busy working on a new online class…wink wink wink! more info coming soon on that, but right now, I want to let you know that I’ll be teaching at the 2018 Ghost Ranch art retreat hosted by Erin Faith Allen!

this is the third year that Erin is hosting this retreat, and I’ve heard nothing but fabulous things about it. the teacher line-up alone is exciting, and I feel so honored to be included! a component of this retreat that I especially love is that you get to choose what 2 workshops you will participate in (totaling in 4 glorious days of art making). so yes, you pretty much get to create your schedule all whilst staying on the infamous Ghost Ranch grounds. I’ll be co-teaching with Willemien DeVilliers, who I’ve become such a fan-girl of since discovering her work…

I’m sure I’ll be sharing more of my preparations and plans for the retreat as April approaches, but for now, I just want to invite you to join me! hop on over to Erin’s website for complete info and registration.

I hope a few of you will come with me (April 25th – 30th, 2018) on this wild and wonderful adventure…xo

as I finalize in-person workshops for 2018, I’ll be keeping you guys up-to-date here on the blog! be sure you’re on my email list (sign up on the right sidebar) to be notified when I put up a post 🙂

I’ve got two workshops that I’m teaching at Way Art Yonder Studio next year, and I’m thrilled to finally share them with you! Way Art Yonder is one of my favorite SoCal studios to teach at…so if you’re in the San Diego area or want to make a trip out of it, I would love for you to join me.

first up is a brand new class I can’t wait to teach…Mixed Media Mini Zines! here’s a bit of info about the workshop:

Mixed Media Mini Zine workshop with artist Roxanne Coble!

+ Mixed Media Mini Zines // Saturday, Feb 24th 2018, 10:00am – 4:00pm +
This brand new class will take you through the process of creating a single-page, 8-fold mini zine … but with a mixed media twist! Completed in Roxanne’s illustrative and detailed style, we will create a zine that features both imagery and text. Through step-by-step instruction, you’ll learn how to apply various illustration and mixed media techniques for each page. You’ll also learn how to plan and add text, and assemble the final product. At the end of the workshop, you’ll have a completed one-page zine, ready for photocopying and distribution!.

FANTASTICAL FAUNA art journal workshop with artist Roxanne Coble in San Diego!

the second class I’ll be teaching is a personal fav and one of my most popular art journal workshops…Fantastical Fauna! this is the second time I’ll be teaching this workshop at Way Art Yonder, because the first time around it sold out. so, if you missed out last time, here’s your second chance :). here’s a bit more about that class:

+ Fantastical Fauna // Saturday, June 16th 2018, 10:00am – 4:00pm +
This popular art journal class takes you through the process of creating a two-page journal spread that includes an illustrated animal. What makes these animals unique however, is that they are in a state of transparency; completed with bones, organs and unique illustrative details. Through guided step-by-step instruction, we will build up an initial background layer using a variety of mixed media techniques. With our background layer complete, you will then learn how to plan, draw and fully illustrate your own fantastical fauna. Learn more & register here.

I’ll be announcing more 2018 workshops in the next couple of weeks or so…so stay tuned 🙂

summer workshops at pv art center

I just wanted to post a quick update (or a save the date really) for two workshops I will be teaching this summer at the Palos Verdes Art Center. registration is not open yet, but I wanted to at least share the dates with you in the case you’re making your plans for summer! especially because I believe one of these workshops in particular will fill up fast…cough* cough*….MINI JOURNALS!

MINI ART JOURNAL WORKSHOP
Saturday, July 9th, 12pm-4pm
This art journaling class takes you through the process of creating a miniature, two-inch, mixed media art journal. Through step-by-step instruction, we will begin by binding and constructing our mini journals by hand. Once our mini journals are assembled, the class will then take you through a variety of individual techniques, prompts, and illustrations to apply within each 2-page spread! At the completion of the class you’ll have a fully altered mini journal featuring eight different miniature art spreads.

“FANTASTICAL FAUNA” // ART JOURNALING WORKSHOP
Saturday, August 6th, 10am-4pm (with one-hour lunch break)
This art journal class takes you through the process of creating a two-page journal spread that includes an illustrated animal. What makes these animals unique however, is that they are in a state of transparency: complete with bones, organs, and unique illustrative details. Through guided step-by-step instruction, we will build up an initial background layer using a variety of mixed media techniques. With our background layer complete, you will then learn how to plan,
draw, and fully illustrate your own fantastical fauna.

I will be posting again here when registration opens up – so be sure you’re on my mailing list to receive a notification! (sign up in the side bar area if you haven’t already —>). I hope to be seeing and creating with some of you over summer…xo
