october film list.

(get ready for a massive post folks). okay. if you know me well…you know that I’m downright OBSESSED with all things halloween/spooky/dead/october themed (anyone remember our murder mystery party from last year?). mesh that with my love for film…and you get a pretty sweet combination…

for the past few years- I’ve always tried my best to watch as many classic horror movies as possible during the entire month of october. usually- I played it off the cuff- I would just throw in a DVD or stream on netflix whatever I was in the mood for. but this time- I’m going to be a little more organized about it in creating a specific list of films I intend on watching…

so – I bring you – the official OCTOBER FILM LIST. you’ll see there is one film for every day of the month (ambitious I know, but you’ll be surprised how many you can crank out if you really put your mind to it). I figured I would get this list up a week before october hits, in case any of you wanted to join in- you can dig up your dvd’s (or netflix queue) too…

  1. What an excellent list – I like some of the more older horror films, too. Nowadays I find the story line is de-emphasized. It may interest you to know that “The Uninvited” is based on a korean film, Tale of Two Sisters. It’s amazing how many horror movies in particular are remakes of Asian movies. Though, I must say that after watching twice, the American version is much much better.

    Have fun and great post!

    • thanks Danielle! and yes- I actually did know that about ‘The Uninvited’! I also know The Ring & The Grudge were also based on Asian films (which, both are not on this list because they both terrify me). I’ve also heard the originals are always more terrifying!

  2. Okay, so I’m going to go crazy and tell you which I’ve seen of these…I’m a Halloween fanatic too (runs in my family):
The Cabinet of Dr. Calgari, Nosferatu, Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein,
The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, Halloween, The Lost Boys, Hocus Pocus, Jaws, Edward Scissorhands (favorite movie ever!), The Birds, Practical Magic, Coraline, Psycho, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Carrie, Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters, Rosemary’s Baby.
I refuse to watch The Shining. Annnnd I have to say your list rocks!

    • LOL I think we have the same taste in movies…we’ve seen the same ones. There’s actually a few on this list I created that I haven’t seen…so maybe we can both fill in the holes in our horror flick repertoire!! …and the shining isn’t THAT bad…you can def handle it if you’ve seen Halloween (there’s only one or two scenes early on that are a little creepy).

    • thanks for the sweet comment my dear! and there are some not-so-scary flicks on this list I think you could handle though (hocus pocus…come on!!) xoxo

  3. I have to say, this is a fantastic list Boon. that said, I hate horror movies…so I think I’ll only be joining you for Young Frankenstein.

    Damn your eyes!!

  4. Love your list Rox! ( puts a smile on my face knowing that your Pops and I introduced you to many of these films ..lol..)
Here’s a couple more..and like you I omitted those filled with toooo much violence and gratuitous bloody body parts..also anything that makes that weird shaky motion like the girl in THE RING.. now that freaks me out..
    The Changeling ( 1979) ~
    Alien( 1979)
    The Legacy ( 1978)
    The Thing( 1982) /Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)/Silence of the Lambs (1990)/6th Sense( 1999)/The Cube ( 1997)/ The Descent ( 2005)

    • thanks!! yes- you’re so right…I can say it’s because of you guys I can even put half of the films on this list. I like the ones you added here (although- some are a little spooky for me). I did almost add The Cube though when making this list…haven’t seen that one in ages!!
