with the new year comes new changes. that being said, I’ve decided to kill off the ‘weekend treats’ feature on my blog. in reality, I would rather use that weekly post to bring you better content…than an array of internet links.
this weekend will be like most – busy. trying to crank out some artwork, tidy our shit storm of an apartment, unbox all of my holiday amazon purchases that are taking over my studio, pick up a christmas tree on sunday…the usual…
puff also has a stand up show this weekend – saturday night @ the comedy store’s main stage in hollywood. if you’re in the area- drop by! show starts at 6pm, and tix are $15 (and say you’re there to see James at the door).
I hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving holiday. of course, while most of you are off work for the day – I’m chained to ye’ ol’ day job desk (fucking absurd that I have to work today). I’ll be itching away the hours till I’m packed up and in the car with puff headed to the mountains. it’s weekends like these that really make me thankful…
lovingthis tarot card deck (makes me want to bust out mine).
great post on why some opt out of having children (I dug what Cat said).
this will the first weekend in a very very long time that my family has been up at the cabin at the same time. seriously, it’s been years since we stayed the weekend as a family (and now with the addition of my future hubs). it’s sure to be filled with great food, wine, board games and cozy sweaters within that little a-frame cabin of ours…
the best part about being a LACMA member? seeing the exhibitions before they open to the public. tomorrow morning I’m off to spend the day at the museum with my mom to see the brand spankin’ new caravaggio exhibit (opens this sunday to the general public) and swing by kubrick after (opened on nov. 1st).
ever since I was young, my mom and I have had our museums dates…and I’m thankful we still do them to this very day. nothing beats getting inspired by the masters, chatting about art technique, art history, and more importantly- I’ll be getting some quality art time with my mom.
we really do feed off each other when we’re in a museum. she’s a working artist, self taught, and incorporates art history into her workshops and lesson plans. mix that with my undergraduate studies in art history, current MFA work, and that I’ve been her project guinea pig since kindergarten- means that we are basically a tornado of art knowledge in any museum or gallery space.
on another note- you should also head over to the pizza comedy facebook page for a chance to win a free t-shirt (which features the recent logo I designed). just ‘like’ the free pizza friday post on their wall to be entered to win…
thank god it’s fucking friday!!! to be honest- this week has been brutal. things are picking up at my day job as we enter busy season, meanwhile earlier this week I was wrapping up my remaining midterm assignments. it’s weeks like this that makes me wish I was a full time grad student (but that would just be too easy huh?).
should be a decent few days ahead- saturday night I’ll be headed downtown for an Academy of Art mixer for graduate students in LA. I’ve only been to one other AAU event prior to this one (which was more of a workshop), and I walked away feeling inspired & motivated as hell. it’s great that they offer these sort of events for us- it’s a rad way to meet folks in the industry (and show off your work), talk to AAU alum, and meet other students in my program. there’s something really comforting in meeting other artists who are going through the same sort of hell as you…(wow- I think that’s the first time I put myself in that category- ‘artists’).
being that I only have one night of plans, the remainder of the weekend will be spent potentially getting ahead on my coursework (fingers crossed on that one) and getting a jump start on a very exciting illustration project (more on that later…*wink!).
happy weekend my dears.
officially can’t get enough tame impala in my life. I’ve been looping lonerism in my studio non stop. makes for great upbeat busy music…
this weekend is basically halloween weekend (being that it falls on a wednesday this year). I’ll be busy as hell trying to catch up on my coursework…and I may or may not throw in a costume contest at local bar saturday night. I’m on a mission to wear my costume as many times as possible this year. can’t wait to share it with you all. alright- onto the treats.
this weekend is basically my ‘birthday weekend‘ and I’ll be attempting to celebrate it in between my midterms (what fun eh?). however, I’m forcing myself to put my coursework aside on saturday, and enjoy a fun day around LA…
one activity I’m especially looking forward to is Braids by Brislin! it’s so beyond perfect- a great cause, a great idea (braid bar? count me in.), been dying to check out Myrtle, aaaannndd what a fab way to get my hair done prior to a night out. if you can, I encourage you to try and swing by. again…learn all about it here.
I have so much going on this weekend it’s not even funny. several wedding dress appointments (I’m determined to get a dress this weekend!), a still life painting to finish, a banner to complete, an early morning photo shoot for the blog with one of my favorite photogs (eep!), and jump starting another little blog ‘project’ that I can’t wait to tell you all about…(*hint- it also involves this fab blogger).
earlier this week, puff and I got a chance to see father john misty at one of our favorite venues in los angeles- the bootleg. little did we know, the show was entirely acoustic. man- I thought I loved this guy, but seeing him acoustic made me love his music all that much more (remember when I posted about him before?). also helped that the bootleg is like the hipster headquarters of music venues (come on- it’s in silverlake, serve $4 PBR, and has a shitty photo booth that’s too good to pass up).
I’ve got the bungalow to myself this weekend, so I’ll be painting up a storm and knocking a few films off my october list. with two oil paintings and a banner job – it should be a productive weekend.
anyone start to cook up any halloween costume ideas? I finally came up with something I’m fucking hyped about…and am hoping to turn it into a DIY for you. but, as of right now it’s top secret- so more on that another time. until then, here’s the treats.
in case you watched gallery girls (merh I did) check out these predictions.
this makes me want a pink couch. (and hey- I’m halfway there with our purple one)
happy weekend to you all.
*ps- film list update: so far I’ve watched The Craft, Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein, and The Witches. shit, I need to legit get through more this weekend. how many have you guys cranked out?
*pss- make sure to check out my new ‘about me’ page over there ->
where the hell did september go? seriously- I feel like I skipped that month entirely and am processing the fact that october starts monday. but- it’s the best month of the year…so I can deal. this weekend, puff and I will be hosting a small family bbq on sunday to celebrate my dad’s retirement. I’m hoping I can get everything else done I need to prior, so I can actually enjoy the day…
